WELCOME TO THE NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

Agricultural industry, valued at approximately $97 billion annually, is the second largest contributor to Florida’s economy, after Tourism. Protection of water quality therefore is critical for both these industries. Nutrient losses from agricultural operations to both ground and surface waters have been documented as being responsible for nonpoint source pollution impairing Florida’s waterbodies.

Dr. Rao Mylavarapu leads Nutrient Management, first position ever to be filled in the Soil and Water Science Department with responsibility for developing and delivering highly visible programs aimed at promoting economically and environmentally sustainable agricultural production resulting in minimizing and improving nutrient impacts on water quality.
